The ZETFON is brought onto the regatta ships
The Peillatten and the ZÖLLNER start signal

The sound battens and the start signal
When the Kieler Woche asked us whether we could equip the starting boats with an acoustic starting signal, we knew immediately that the sound for the Kieler Woche had to come from ZÖLLNER.
As the starting boats do not have a compressed air supply, it quickly became clear that our ZETFON would be used - with its clear, penetrating sound that gets the adrenaline levels of the athletes pumping.
A particular challenge was mounting the ZETFON on the so-called pitch slats - equipment that ZÖLLNER does not normally provide. After some research and with the support of our partners in Kiel, a few weeks later we were able to take delivery of ten made-to-measure peel battens with the characteristic orange triangle in our workshop.
Our workshop used components from our Rail business unit for the cabling and power supply. Thanks to technical expertise, many years of experience and skilled craftsmanship, our colleagues succeeded in developing a robust device that integrates both the trigger and the battery - and can withstand the harsh conditions on the water.
A final test in the sound room to check that everything is in working order and the bearing battens with ZETFON can be collected.
We look forward to seeing them in use on board the starting ships soon - and to being part of the unmistakable sound of Kieler Woche.
