Where does the sound of Kiel Week come from?

Did you know? The famous Kieler Woche horn is produced right here in Kiel
Yes, that's right - the unmistakable sound that marks the start of one of Europe's biggest sailing and summer festivals year after year is lovingly handcrafted in the heart of our city.

Here you get an exclusive look behind the scenes:
How is the horn made? Who is behind it? And why is this particular signal so deeply interwoven with Kieler Woche? We will show you how metal, technology and passion are turned into a sound that gives you goose bumps.

The warehouse
Every year, our team in the warehouse ensures that the Kieler Woche horn is lovingly packed and well protected for its next use.

The mechanical workshop
Our colleagues from the mechanical workshop check the horn in our sound room to ensure that the volume, sound and function are guaranteed on the big day.

The Kieler Woche team
The team from the town hall stage and the crew in Schilksee stage our horns and ensure that the Prime Minister and Lord Mayor can give the starting signal.

The people of Kiel
And last but not least, the people of Kiel are of course important, who make this tradition what it is and celebrate the start of the festival week every year anew on the Rathausplatz and in Schilksee.
