ZÖLLNER Symposium 2025// A Strong Signal from Kiel

Safety as a Shared Responsibility

Kiel // With this year’s guiding theme “What is safe enough?”, the ZÖLLNER Symposium 2025 sent a clear message in support of greater safety on railway construction sites. From September 10 to 11, around 160 professionals from seven countries gathered in Kiel to exchange insights on current developments, challenges, and solutions in the field of trackside safety.

Across 18 expert presentations, specialists from industry, research, and practice explored the many dimensions of safety:

  • technical standards,
  • human behavior,
  • legal frameworks,
  • and the shared responsibility of all stakeholders.

These talks were accompanied by open, honest, and constructive discussions that shaped the spirit of the symposium: learning together, thinking ahead, and taking action collectively.

Safety is never a coincidence

Safety arises through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the courage to question and improve existing practices. This idea ran like a common thread throughout the event and was reflected in the high quality of contributions and the intense dialogue among participants.

One message stood out clearly: protecting people on railway worksites is not just a technical goal—it’s a shared mission that unites everyone involved, from manufacturers and operators to on-site personnel. It’s the reason we do what we do every day—and the bond that connects us as an industry.

ZÖLLNER extends heartfelt thanks to all participants for their commitment, openness, and valuable contributions. Special thanks go to the 18 speakers, whose practical and inspiring presentations played a key role in the success of the event.

Looking ahead, we’re already excited for the next ZÖLLNER Symposium, taking place from June 16 to 18, 2026—once again with the goal of advancing safety in the rail sector, together.
